Tyninghame and East Linton Community Cinema:
Oscar Night - April 11

What a success! The community cinema production was a smash hit and Tyninghame Village Hall looked superb, complete with red carpet, brass entrance poles and rope, illuminated walkdown and glorious decoration. Both films shown had excellent audiences, with the later one being a sell-out.

The first film shown was the Oscar winning film 'The Hurt Locker'. This was a grim look at an American bomb disposal unit in Iraq. Though hard going at times it was interspersed with grim military humour and provided members of the audience with some thought provoking ideas and images - well worth seeing.

The second film was 'an Oscar nomination - 'An Education'. This was set in the 60s and was a story about a girl's coming of age. Very entertaining and with superb sets and costumes evoking the era, it gave a roller coaster ride of emotions and views of the time.

The Monday film was 'Fishtank' , a double British Independent Film Award winner shown on at The Crown Hotel. This was a grim unrelenting view of life on an English housing estate. Not for the fainthearted, it gave no idea of redemption for any of the characters, but a continuing cycle of depravation and despair.
